There were 712,200 Maori living in New Zealand at the end of June, up 10,500 from a year earlier.
Statistics New Zealand estimates show it's a predominantly young population, but the number of older people is creeping up, with 550 over 90 compared with 180 just 20 years ago, and 1520 in their 80s compared with 410 in 1995.
At that stage the total Maori population was estimated at 517,300.
There are about 347,200 male Maori and 365,000 female Maori.
