Simpson picked for Tainui board
Waikato-Tainui has appointed experienced director Tania Simpson to the board of its investment arm Tainui Group Holdings.
Ms Simpson, from Ngati Raukawa and Ngati Maniapoto, recently stepped down after 13 years on the board of Mighty River Power.
Last year she became the first Maori director of the Reserve Bank, and she’s also a member of the Waitangi Tribunal.
Appointments committee chair Patience Te Ao says Ms Simpson has a strong vision for iwi development and recognising Maori values within business.
Ms Simpson, who has served Waikato-Tainui in other capacities, says TGH has built a strong foundation over the past 15 years with many commercial opportunities to come.
As a Te Kauhanganui appointment to the TGH Board, Tania Simpson joins independent chair Sir Henry van der Heyden, Hemi Rau and Tukoroirangi Morgan representing the tribe’s Te Arataura the executive and independents Mike Allen and Matthew Cockram.
