Maori traders get boost
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise is to put another $1.6 million a year to support Maori businesses wanting to grow internationally.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell, who just returned from leading a Maori trade mission to China, says has there’s huge interest in the unique value that Maori businesses offer overseas.
One of the five new positions to be created over the next year is for a business development manager in China focused just on Maori business.
NZTE will also work with Te Puni Kokiri and other agencies to help companies succeed internationally, to connect them to other partners, and work with them to make the most of the opportunities offshore.
Mr Flavell says Maori economic development is a key theme of the Government’s Growth Agenda which will help boost a Maori economy already valued at over $40 billion.
