Wahine welcome for Green MP

Marama Davidson makes her maiden speech to parliament today, but the new Green MP has already made an impact on the house.
The former Human Rights Commission official replaces former co-leader Russel Norman, who has left to run Greenpeace New Zealand.
She was welcomed onto the grounds yesterday by Te Atiawa, and then accompanied into the chamber by Maori women MPs including Green MP Denise Roche.
"There was Metiria Turei and I from the Greens, Meka Whaitiri and Louisa Wall from Labour – Nanaia Mahuta wasn’t in the House – and Marama Fox from the Maori Party, which was really lovely. The National Party women, they didn’t, but they did give her a big hullo, particularly Hekia Parata, because she is whanaunga from Ngati Porou of course," Ms Roche says.
Four of the Greens’ 14 MPs are Maori, and 25 out of the total 120 MPs have whakapapa Maori.
