Record low turn-out leaves status quo in place at energy trust

The centre right Communities and Residents ticket has kept its grip on the Auckland Energy Community Trust Election, taking all five seats in an election marked by concern over its tactics and extremely low turnout.
Other candidates complained about C&R slapping a sticker over its hoardings claiming credit for the trust’s dividend paid just before polls opened.
Returning officer Dale Ofsoke said they should remove the stickers, but he had no power to enforce it.
Voter turnout was just 12.84 percent, down from 17.1 percent three years ago.
The sole Maori candidate, Toa Greening, came 14th of 16 candidates.
Wile the dividend paid this year was $345 to every household in the old Auckland and Manukau power board regions, the five directors between them split $345,000 in fees.
