Strong interest in new kura hourua
Another 25 groups have put their hands up for the third round of applications to set up charter schools or kura hourua.
Partnership Schools Authorisation Board chair Catherine Isaac says there’s strong Maori and Pasifika representation.
Ten of the applications are from Auckland and just one is from the South Island.
They cover every level from early childhood to senior secondary.
Ms Isaac says the level of interest can be taken as a vote of confidence in a policy that is connecting education innovators with disadvantaged students whose needs are not being met by the existing state school system.
The board will evaluate the proposals over the next two months with help from the Ministry of Education.
