Kelvin Davis – a Leader in waiting?

Kelvin Davis – a Leader in waiting?
MARTYN BRADBURY
The animosity of the manner in which other political parties ganged up on Hone Harawira to kill off MANA at the last election aside, Kelvin Davis has walked the walk when it comes to challenging power.
By turning up at Christmas Island and demanding to see NZers being held at the dentation camp there, Davis has done more for our detained citizens than the Prime Minister's denial has.
This follows a strong performance by Davis for the gift that keeps giving that is SERCO which in turn gives him enough political capital to be able to turn up at a Charter School fundraiser despite enraging Teacher Unions.
Blunt talking Maori Politicians prepared to call spades un-PC names are always a hit with the wider electorate, think Winston Peters, John Tamihere, Shane Jones and Tau Henare. Davis gives Labour their self diagnosed need for red blooded testosterone especially as Andrew Little continues to make tiny head way against Key.
Kelvin looks more dynamic and in touch with the people by his Christmas Island visit where as Little looks flatfooted and measly mouthed. At some stage the disaffected factions inside Labour may turn to Davis as a possible circuit breaker. It's questionable however that there will be anything left to break by the time they build up the nerve to try that on.
