Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox says we don’t need a taskforce to tell women they aren’t being paid equitably, we just need to do something about it.

The government has established a taskforce including union and employer representatives to work through a the implications of a court finding that low wages for rest home workers was caused in part by gender discrimination against the predominantly female workforce.

Ms Fox says the Maori Party has been pushing for the minimum wage to move above the poverty wage.

"If we can’t get the Government to move on minimum wage, the least we can do is get them to move on equity so that if you pay people in equitable way so they are all paid the same whether you are a Maori or Pasifika woman or a Pakeha woman or a Pakeha man, you will automatically bring a lot of those wages up," she says
