Yellow Brick Road leads to Kono
Wakatu Incorporation’s export food and beverage business Kono New Zealand has bought awarding winning food distribution company Yellow Brick Road from founder Rachel Taulelei.
Ms Taululei, from Ngati Raukawa and Ngati Rarua, becomes Kono’s new chief executive, replacing Don Everitt.
She set up the company in 2006 after working as a New Zealand trade commissioner to the United States.
While her initial aim was to export seafood to the United States, she also identified a demand from New Zealand chefs for high quality, sustainably-caught produce, and now supplies more than 300 restaurants around the country.
Chef Martin Bosley, who set up Wellington's City Market with her, has taken over as head of Yellow Brick Road.
Wakatu chair Paul Morgan says Ms Laululei’s experience in sourcing, selling and marketing high quality, ethically produced food and beverages, her entrepreneurial zeal and her absolute commitment to kaitiakitanga of our assets made her a natural choice to run the parent company.
