Sustainability wins scholarship
A well-reasoned view of what sustainable agriculture is has won Massey University student Alana Mako this year’s Ravensdown-PKW Scholarship.
The $5000 a year scholarship is open to the sons and daughters of shareholders in Taranaki’s Parininihi Ki Waitotara Maori Incorporation.
Ms Mako is in the third year of study for a Bachelor of Resource and Environment Planning.
As part of the award she will work with the Ravensdown regional team.
Ravensdown’s general manager of research and development, Mike Manning, says he was impressed by her values, attitude and priorities when it comes to achieving a sustainable future for agriculture.
He says the scholarship is about supporting the next generation of farmers not only by gaining the academic knowledge but by putting that knowledge to practical use with expert advisors on the ground
