Minister offers Horowhenua help

Lake Horowhenua kaitiaki Philip Taueki gets a chance today to put his concerns to Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell.
Mr Taueki has been struggling to get the action of cleaning up the lake, which has been used for a century as a dumping ground for Levin’s stormwater and sewage.
With a group of supporters he recently took over a building on Maori land beside the lake formerly used by a sailing club.
"He’s just really passionate about Lake Horowhenua and what it means for Muaupoko so I have been asked to go up and have a meeting with him and Whatarangi Winiata to see if we can advance things. It is in front of the Waitangi Tribunal so there is a few things to work through but I am going to talk to him about how we can help him out," Mr Flavell says.
The Horowhenua claim is being considered by the Waitangi Tribunal next month.
