Ngati Porou fills top spot

Former Te Puni Kokiri deputy chief executive Herewini Te Koha has been appointed chief executive of Te Runanganui o Ngati Porou.
Mr Te Koha, who has Ngati Porou, Ngapuhi and Ngati Tamatera whakapapa, has also headed Te Mangai Paho, been deputy director of the Office of treaty Settlements and was one of Ngati Porou’s three treaty settlement negotiators.
The position managing the country’s second largest iwi was opened up by the sudden resignation of Dean Moana, who only stayed in the job a couple of months after shifting from Aotearoa Fisheries subsidiary Prepared Foods.
Sources familiar with the runanga says an unwieldy governance structure can put pressure on management.
