Maori royal family member stands up for dance

A teenage dance champion from Huntly has had his moves immortalised on the silver screen.
Tia-Taharoa Maipi from Ngati Whawhakia and Ngati Mahuta plays the role of Tu in Born to Dance, which premieres in Manukau tonight before going on general theatrical release.
As a member of the Royal Family dance crew, he has won numerous hip hop titles including the Hip Hop International world championships in Las Vegas.
He says working with director Tammy Davis was life changing, and he’s excited by the response to the film on the festival circuit.
"I still enjoy watching it, and it's good to hear the reactions of the crowd, because that's an indication they're following Tu's journey, and that's what you want to do, capture the audience," Maipi says.
