Modern Maori Quartet makes mark on Silk Trail

The Modern Maori Quartet has come back from its first tour of Asia with a prize for the ‘Most Daring & Emotional Performance’ at the 10th Sharq Taronalari International Music Festival in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Band member Maaka Pohatu says the tohu was a fantastic cap for the tour, which also included shows in Malaysia and Singapore.
The quartet heads to Hawaii next week for two shows at the Kumu Kahua Theatre in Honolulu, before bringing its update of the classic Maori showband tradition to audiences in Palmerston North, Whanganui and Blenheim.
