Warehouse move good for domestic violence action
The Safer Aotearoa Family Violence Prevention Network is congratulating The Warehouse Group for offering 10 days of paid leave to employees who need time to deal with domestic violence issues.
Governance member Te Rata Hikairo says the network is encouraging other companies and community organisations to match the offer.
He says research indicates it could be effective in reducing the harm of violence in the home.
"when someone is going through a domestic violence situation one of the things they need is a little bit of income security so they can carry on with life as normal and do what they can to keep them and their family safe, so for The Warehouse to put its hand out like this for its 12,000 employees is a really commendable thing to do," Mr Hikairo says.
Domestic violence in New Zealand has claimed 100 lives over the past two years..
