Porirua Harbour clean up on track
Mission accomplished.
That’s the message coming from a group that brought together iwi Ngati Toa Rangatira, community and local government to clean up Porirua Harbour.
The Pauatahanui Inlet Community Trust is winding up after 13 years.
Chair John McKoy says the objectives the trust had when it was set up have mostly been achieved.
He says the harbour was now in good hands, with a number of organisations including Porirua City Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council actively advocating for its ongoing protection and improvement.
Many of the Trust’s former members were involved in community based groups which continue to advocate for the harbour, helping retain a wealth of experience and knowledge.
