Ma Te Reo funding deadline extended
The Maori Language Commission has extended the period for applications for its Me Te Reo funding round until next Monday to allow people to come to terms with its new online system.
Te Taura Whiri chief executive Ngahiwi Apanui says more than 330 groups registered to apply for funds for community-based language projects, but less than 200 completed their forms.
" So what we are trying to do with te reo Maori and with our systems and with our processes is to make them contemporary and relevant today so that as many people can use them. We also know there will be some teething problems with that. People will struggle a little bit coming to grips with those systems but the number of applications has doubled from the previous years so that's a great evidence to show we are on the right track with this" he says.
Ngahiwi Apanui says people can apply for funding for community events, language resources, or language courses including wananga reo.
