Aupouri board lays off staff

The Aupouri Maori Trust Board in the far north is laying off staff and handing its social service programmes over to other providers.
Chair Raymond Subritsky says the board is facing challenging financial circumstances and has initiated an in- depth audit and review to fully investigate the situation.
He says a hui will be held with iwi members once the audit is complete.
The trust board has been running a number of social service and housing programmes, but it has been propped up financially in recent years by Te Runanga Nui o Te Aupouri Trust, which received the tribe’s treaty settlement.
