Search for Maori golfing talent
Get them while they’re young says Sam Parsons, the facilitator of the Tamariki Junior Golf Programme, who is he’s trying to identify the next generation of Maori golf stars.
There’s a session at Auckland’s Chamberlain Park golf course tomorrow morning tamariki who want to find out something about the game.
He’ll be looking out for kids who may never have swung a club but have some natural ability they may show in other back yard games.
" We get a lot especially with the Maori kids and stuff like that. Sports and athletic background and family and that's what golf is about. It's about bringing the family together. Playing golf with mum or dad your uncles or autnites getting them in there. Definitely see an huge aspect for a Maori kid is showing the natural sporting abilitiy early" he says.
Sam Parsons first session at Chamberlain Park for 8 year olds up starts at 10, and there’s another one for 7 and unders starting 10.15.
