A Hawkes Bay whanau have set up an 8 house papakainga development with a model they are recommending to others.
Ngati Hinewera spokesperson Laurie O'Reilly says there is a strict code of compliance for families from a range of generations living on the communally owned 1.45 hectare site at Taradale including no gangs, no drugs and no dogs.
" We've got an external property manager to reduce the conflict of interest when we have got whanau trying to collect money off their own whanau. It doesn't really work out" he says.
Laurie O'Reilly says having an external property manager is also excellent for managing such things as WINZ assistance for the inter-generational whanau.
