Whanau need to get behind Maori boarding schools

Maori party co-leader Marama Fox says whanau need to get behind Maori boarding schools such as Turakina Maori Girls College if they are to survive.
She says its numbers more than money which is threatening the closure of the Marton kura whose roll is down to 54 which is not considered viable for it to continue by the government.
"You cannot run a school on dwindling numbers. Whanau are choosing to vote with their feet and as there is now better access to kaupapa Maori education in the regions a number who would have gone to the boarding schools are now staying back in their regions."she says.
Marama Fox says if the people get behind the Maori boarding schools and support them by sending their children they will survive.
