The co-ordinator of a future leadership programme in Te Arawa Taria Tahana says the just completed series of 5 wananga over the past six months has been highly successful.

She says the programme involving 16 potential leaders focused on building the knowledge and skills of those living within Te Arawa with a committment to the iwi.

We have got people who are passionate about linguistics. We've got a doctor who really wants the medical system to be more responsive to our people. We've got educationalists who are going to take on more te reo and tikanga wananga. We've got economic leaders. Everybody knows that and can support them now to better contribute to Te Arawa" she says.

Taria Tahana says the next step will be holding a leadership forum in Te Arawa early next year.
