Calls for action on electronic monitoring.
Te Tai Tokerau MP Kelvin Davis who has led the charge against conditions in Mt Eden Prison has turned his attention to inadequacies with electronic monitoring of offenders on Home Detention.
His concerns follows news that a convicted sex offenders was loose in the community for seven hours after discharging his electronic bracelet before his absense was confirmed because police could not enter his home without a search warrant.
Mr Davis says if the police need to wake up a Judge or a Justice of the Peace they should do so rather than tip toeing around and putting the community at risk.
He says the absconding by Daniel Livingstone who had raped a 10 year old girl comes just days after Tony Robertson was given a life sentence for murdering Blessie Gotingco while wearing a monitoring bracelet.
He says that there has been 15,500 breaches of electronic monitoring since 2008 is totally unacceptable.
