The clean up of the Rena which went aground at the entrance to Tauranga Harbour in 2011 is far from over according to the Ngai Te Rangi iwi.
The chair of Ngai Te Rangi Charlie Tawhiao says although cleaning up the visability of the wreck has been completed Maori wont rest till the clean up of submerged wreckage which is still leaking contaminants is completed.
The Greek ship owners are seeking resource consent to avoid.
Mr Tawhiao says its really important for mainland iwi such as Ngai Te Rangi to support the people of Motiti Island who have the wreckage on their doorstep.
