Manurewa MP off to Human Rights forum.

Labour MP Louisa Wall who has headed to Fiji for a United Nations Forum on Human Rights says the rights of gays and transexuals will be a focus of the conference.
She says while homosexual law reform was passed in New Zealand nearly 30 years ago Pacific neighbours Samoa and Tonga still have laws criminalising homosexuality which will come under the UN spotlight.
" I think there will always be residual resistance and some of that for me is our colonisation history and particularly the influence of religion in our region" she says.
Louisa Wall says Fiji where the forum is being held is one of only three countries in the world which prohibits descrimination on the basis of gender in its constitution formulated by the late Archbishop of New Zealand Sir Paul Reeves.
