Flavell wary of tasers
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says he is very wary about the move announced last week to equip all frontline police with tasers.
He says Police already have access to tasers and guns when needed.
" If this is sort of a short term solution to moving us toward our police carrying guns. I am absolutely against it. We like to feel safe in our own country and when we go overseas we get a little bit shocked with those who are carrying guns and we hear about the violence with what's happening around the world with the use of guns. This would be disastrous in my view for us to be moving in that direction" he says.
Mr Flavel says he understands the need for Police to protect themselves but there has been incidents already where people have been needless shot and tasered.
