Flavell supports government action on Mt Eden
Maori party leader Te Ururoa Flavell says the government has done the right thing in putting a crack team from other prisons into Mt Eden to sort the problems out.
Mr Flavell says the Maori party supported the privatisation of Mt Eden and found Serco's record in rehabilitation in other countries appealling.
However he says that if they are not supporting things such as cultural programmes for Maori then that needs to be looked at very carefulkly.
Mr Flavell says if Srco loses the contract so be it.
The welfare of prisoners is a state responsibility and it must make sure everything is done to make sure prisons are managed responsibly.
Te Ururoa Flavell says the Maori party will be continuing to look into the way all prisons operate.
