Taura Whiri releases reo resources for language week

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori has been flooded with orders for its Maori Language Week resources.
The commission says almost 1000 applications were received in the first 24 hours the order form went online.
The theme for the week, which kicks off on July 27, is Whangaihia te Reo ki nga Matua’ ‘Nurture the language in parents’.
Acting chief executive Tuehu Harris says the aim is to encourage and support every day Maori language use for parents and caregivers with children.
As well as free resources encouraging use of te reo Maori in the home and everyday situations, there are two posters to commemorate 40 years since the first Maori Language Day.
One features thelate Dame Whina Cooper taking the first steps on the 1975 Maori Land March, and the other reflects on the place of Maori language today.
Other resources will be distributed to schools by the Ministry of Education, and Plunket, Te Puni Kokiri, New Zealand Post, Maori Television and Te Kupu o te Ra will also promote te reo Maori throughout the country.
A new feature this year is the first State of Te Reo Maori address, which will be given by leading te reo Maori advocate Professor Timoti Karetu at Te Papa Tongarewa.
