Sonny Tau apologises to Ngai Tahu


Te Tai Tonga MP Rino Tirikatene is happy Ngapuhi chair Sonny Tau has returned to Murihiku to apologise for his pigeon-hunting adventure in the deep south.
Mr Tau will appear in the district court in Invercargill later this month on charges relating to the five kukupa found in his jacket at the city’s airport last month.
But he went down early to speak at an invitation only hui.
"It was a private affair and that was he way the hau kainga of the Oraka Aparima Marae wanted to do things. I’m pleased the cultural side has been taken care of and Ngapuhi were greatly concerned about the whole incident and they have been able to go down here and give an apology and take care of that tikanga side," Mr Tirikatene says.
The apology went along way to address the concerns of Ngai Tahu, and they will now wait to hear the story that emerges from the court case.
