Tuhoe looks to break dependency
A year on from its settlement, Ngai Tuhoe is making community and infrastructure development a priority.
Tuhoe leader Tamati Kruger says the iwi is looking for its own models, rather than getting something off the shelf.
Its 40-year programme is starting with the establishment of medical centres throughout its rohe, and it’s considering trbal facilityes in Ruatahuna, Waikaremoana, Waimana and Ruatoki.
It’s also looking at ways to move its people on from dependence on the state.
Tamati Kruger says another priority is enhancing the ecology of Te Urewera.
