Judd to share ward fight woe
The New Zealand Maori Council has added New Plymouth Mayor Andrew Judd to the line up for its hui on Sunday looking at how to improve Maori participation in representation and governance.
Mr Judd fought unsuccessfully for a Maori ward for his council.
He hopes by speaking at the hui other communities could learn from his experience.
Mr Judd says the whole process of getting Maori representaiton on councils is flawed, broken and divisive.
Other speakers at Te Tatau Pounamu Hui Representation and Governance Conference in Palmerston North include indigenous rights advocate and lawyer Moana Jackson and Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox
