Council slow to respond to treaty audit

Auckland Council has been told progress on recommendations made by a Te Tiriti o Waitangi audit of the council is too slow.
The finance and performance committee has been told only a few of the 42 recommendations made in a 2012 audit are completed.
The audit by Pricewaterhouse Coopers measured the performance of the council, local boards and council controlled organisations against legislative requirements relating to Maori.
Independent Maori Statutory Board chair David Taipari says at the current rate it would take 40 years to address the outstanding recommendations.
He says good intentions aren’t good enough.
