Tamaki Collective ready for housng challenge

Auckland’s mana whenua iwi are keen to be a part of any effort to build affordable housing on surplus crown land in the region.
Paul Majurey, the chair of the Tamaki Makaurau Collective, says while they were not consulted in advance of last week’s budget, the iwi should have a right of first refusal over most or all of the 430 hectares earmarked for the plan.
He says its track record with a $120 million Waimahia subdivision in South Auckland, built as a joint venture with community housing groups and Te Tumu Paeroa, shows it has the skills and experience needed to develop special housing areas.
