Whanau ora support boosts school results
Whanau Ora navigators have helped two Gisborne primary schools dramatically increase whanau engagement, student participation and achievement rates.
That has put Kaiti School and Te Kura Reo Rua o Waikirikiri in the finals of the engagement section or the Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards.
Gisborne Boys High School also makes the final in that section with two programmes:
– The Whakairo course of study, which lifted achievement of Maori students through mentoring programmes and a more culturally engaging curriculum;
– and Tu Tane, which dramatically reduced detentions, stand downs and suspensions for year 10 students and lifted NCEA participation rates by focusing on identity, values and relationships.
Judges will visit the 11 finalists over the next month and winners will be announced on June 17
