Weka is on the menu for a second series of Marae Kai Masters, which premieres on Maori Television on May 27.
Nevak Rogers says she and co-presenter Te Kohe Tuhaka were blown away by the calibre of contestants, which made it tough to pick the final 10.
Challenges set by the celebrity chef judges – Karena and Casey Bird, Cameron Petley and Rex Morgan – include a mince makeover, classy canape's, doing something exciting with the indigenous kai unique to each area, and getting creative with kingfish.
This year’s prize pool totals almost $130,000.
Producer Kay Ellmers says the series is about celebrating the efforts of those who keep marae functioning.
