Nga Pae o Te Maramatanga wins CoRE funding
Nga Pae o Te Maramatanga has succeeded in its bid to get continued funding as a the Maori Centre of Research Excellence.
The Tertiary Education Commission has just completed a second round of CoRE funding after complaints about how established centres including the Auckland University-based Nga Pae had missed out.
Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce says it means the number of CoREs will rise from six to 10.
He says of the three applicants for the Maori research funding, a revamped Nga Pae stood out for the quality and coverage of its research programme.
The other successful applicants from the 21 who reapplied are two existing CoREs: Lincoln University’s Bio-Protection Research Centre and Massey’s Riddet Institute for food science and nutrition; and the University of Canterbury’s new QuakeCore: Centre for Earthquake Resilience.
