Head leads heart as Hohaia hangs up his boots
League legend Lance Hohaia has retired.
The 32-year-old former Kiwi and Warriors utility back cited recurrent post-match concussion-type symptoms, and he won’t play out the rest of the season with his St Helen’s club.
Code host Wairangi Koopu says his fellow Taniwharau member was this year named the best player in the club’s 70-year history.
He says it sounds like the right decision.
"The older you get the more tired your tinana gets and your mind is still telling you you can play but eventually the mind catches up with the body and tells you I can't do it any more,' so it's football at the end of the day, it's short and he's got a huge part of his life left, so we are looking forward to what he does next," Mr Koopu says.
Code returns tonight with a feature on the New Zealand squad’s preparation for next month’s world Taekwando championships.
