Marsh sings tribute to past soldiers
Entertainer Dennis Marsh has again scaled the top of the charts.
His new album Lest We Forget is a tribute to those who fought for New Zealand overseas.
Songs include Blue Smoke, the Last Farewell, Man From Vietnam, Maori Battalion and Under the Sun among others.
He says it’s an album he’s wanted to make for a long time, spurred by memories of those in his own whanau who have been part of the armed services, including a grandfather in the Maori Battalion.
"In actual fact he joined the army at 14 years old, he never got back till he was 19. I heard too that he was a little bit frightened coming home because he was going to get a hiding when he gets home" he says.
Dennis Marsh says songs can be a better way to carry memories than just words on their own.
