Little keen on primary school reo
Labour leader Andrew Little wants to see the government show more courage about getting te reo Maori taught in schools.
Mr Little says a pre-budget announcement for building new schools and classrooms, including three kura kaupapa Maori, is just making provision for population growth.
He says more can be done in terms of both kura and other state schools to promote greater awareness of things Maori.
"I’m a believer of the view that te reo should be taught, should be compulsory for kids at primary school because it defines who we are as New Zealanders. It's an important part of our cultural landscape that every New Zealander should be participating in" says Labour leader Andrew Little
