Arguments put for Maori seats
New Plymouth District Council is rolling out the big guns as it tries to rally support Maori wards.
Voting papers will be sent out next week for a binding referendum on whether the council will have a Maori seat.
The case for dedicated representation will be put at a public forum next week by former Race Relations Commissioner Joris De Bres.
Also speaking will be Bay of Plenty Regional Council chair Doug Leeder, whose council has three Maori seats.
New Plymouth mayor Andrew Judd and Treaty of Waitangi educator Margaret Smith will also speak.
