Ngati Porou wants to keep healthcare local

Ngati Porou Hauora chief executive Rose Kakahi says there is a strong community drive to keep health services on the East Coast.
The Hauora, Te Runanganui o Ngati Porou, and Tairawhiti District Health are looking at how health care will be delivered to the East Coast in future.
A final report on service models and facilities will be considered by the three boards next month before being taken out for more community consultation.
Ms Kakahi says the proposal will be based around using the existing community clinics.
She says in future there could also be a need for a community health hub addressing issues such as maternity care, aged care and long term beds.
