Tauranga gets 13th rangatahi court

Tauranga has become the latest place to get a rangatahi court.
Courts Minister Amy Adams says the youth court sittings on Hairini Marae will allow a stronger focus on addressing offending by young Maori.
She says it will place young offenders in a setting where they can take ownership of their offending, with the support of whanau, kuia and kaumatua.
Ms Adams says the Court works within the existing Youth Court framework but uses a marae-based, Maori-specific environment to try to help young Maori and their whanau engage with the justice system in ways that make sense to them.
There are now 13 rangatahi courts around the country.
