Consultation near of Te Arawa plan for council

Rotorua Lakes Council are getting ready to consult on its plan to adopt a new partnership model put up by Te Arawa.
The model, which was approved in principle by the council in December, has sparked a backlash with some current and former councillors forming a group to campaign against it.
Strategy and partnerships manager, Jean-Paul Gaston, says a special council meeting next Tuesday will consider a draft statement of proposal which will form the basis of community consultation.
Te Arawa’s partnership model proposes the establishment of an independent elected Te Arawa Board sitting outside of the council, which would have two of its members appointed to the council’s Operations & Monitoring Committee, and to the Strategy, Policy & Finance Committee.
There would also be a single Te Arawa Board representative appointed to the CEO’s Performance Committee and RMA consent hearings panels.
