Davis primed for by-election
Te Tai Tokerau MP Kelvin Davis is looking forward to getting back on the hustings in support of Labour's choice of candidate for the Northland by-election.
The by-election will be held mid to late March to replace National's Mike Sabin, who quit on Friday citing personal issues that were best dealt with outside Parliament.
Prime Minister John Key has denied knowing about Mr Sabin's issues before the election, and said he had seen him as a potential cabinet minister.
Mr Davis says it all looks like a grubby cover-up from the top of the National Party, and he's looking forward to the contest.
"We've got to go through our process of selecting a candidate but I hope it is going to be Willow-Jean Prime who was a fantastic candidate in the election last year. She pegged back the majority by a few thousand, pretty good for a first go. She had a baby last week and I rang her up and said 'When things happen they happen all at once,' and she said 'Yep, it's been a good six days and I'm ready to contest this election if the Labour Party selects me,' so I'm really looking forward to confirming our candidate and getting into it," Mr Davis says.
Mike Sabin's majority in Northland of 9300 was more than two times the vote for Willow Jean Prime, so the seat is considered true blue.
