Speedy claims passes into law

Parliament has passed settlements for Ngati Koroki Kahukura and Ngati Haua, allowing the central Waikato iwi to finally move on.
Ngati Koroki negotiating team member Willie Te Aho says the speed with which Ngati Haua concluded its negotiations took many people by surprise, going from a standing start to a deed of settlement in just eight months.
That’s a testimony to its leaders who brought together the hapu and marae behind the kaupapa.
He says other tribes might take note.
"Just because you take seven years, like Ngati Koroki Kahukura, it doesn't make it any better. In fact you get more pain the longer you take because you allow others like the Pahkeha farmers at Maungataurari to throw more stones at you," Mr Te Aho says.
