Iwi leaders to set policy direction

Six iwi representatives have been appointed to the Whanau Ora Partnership Group that will work with ministers to determine the outcomes the three Whanau Ora commissioning agencies need to achieve.
The six, who were nominated by the Iwi Chairs Forum, are Ngapuhi Runanga head Sonny Tau, Ngai Tahu’s Sir Mark Solomon, Naida Glavish from Ngati Whatua, Rahui Papa from Tainui, Dr Hope Tupara from Turanganui a Kiwa and Richard Steedman, who manages Mokai Patea claims in the Taihape area.
Whanau Ora Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says the appointees bring depth, wisdom, and iwi connections to the task.
The partnership group will be chaired by Mr Flavell and also includes the ministers of finance, education, health, social development and economic development.
It will develop strategies that ensure whanau and communities who can benefit from Whanau Ora, have that opportunity.
