Rangiwewehi gets into rongoa business

Te Arawa iwi Ngati Rangiwewehi has teamed up with a Chinese company to create new products out of rongoa Maori.
Chair Anaru Bidois says Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Company understands the importance of traditional medicines and has the expertise and capital to help the iwi develop its resources.
He says they hope to develop healthcare and therapeutic services utilising traditional Chinese and Maori herbs, massage and other traditional techniques as well as modern healthcare technologies.
The partnership also includes Rotorua-based New Zealand Supreme Group, whose managing director Ho Po Kin has been developing products based on traditional Chinese medicine in New Zealand.
He says he realised Maori have their own traditional medicines and wellness culture that he needed to explore.
