Tainui voters go missing

Waikato-Tainui has confirmed that 72 percent of votes in its governance referendum favoured the so-called Marae Model of a smaller parliament and smaller executive.
A final decision on a new model will be made by its representation body, Te Kauhanganui, on November 23 and a team formed to manage the transition in time for the tribal triennial elections next February.
A total of 5,559 votes were received, or just under 13 percent of eligible voters on the tribal register.
About one in five of the 55,000 election packs distributed were returned because the address was no longer valid.
