Tainui Maori leader dies
Iwi are in mourning for Eru Thompson, who died yesterday evening.
Mr Thompson had affiliations to Te Kawerau a Maki, Ngati Te Ata, Ngati Mahanga and Ngati Pukenga, and served on many government, local goverment and tribal boards.
He acted as a kaumatua for Internal Affairs, Police and Corrections in the Auckland region.
He also worked as iwi liaison manager for native timber exporter New Zealand Forests.
Mr Thompson will arrive at Tamaki Makaurau Marae at Ihumatao at noon today. He will be buried on Saturday at Pukaki.
