Te Kupenga helps increase iwi involvement

The director of iwi fisheries collective Te Kupenga says a new Ihu to Mai partnership with Sealord is a chance to increase involvement with the fishing industry.
Under the deal deepwater annual catch entitlement, help by Te Kupenga's core members Waikato, Maniapoto, Raukawa and Hauraki, as well as Te Whanau a Apanui and Te Aupouri, will be caught, processed and marketed by the fisheries giant.
Tony Magner says it means the iwi will have a more direct engagement with a company they have a stake in through their shareholding in pan-Maori comapny Aotearoa Fisheries.
Tony Magner says Te Kupenga will get access to customary catch through a Pataka Kai system being set up by Sealord and Te Ohu Kaimoana, and there will also be training and employment opportunities for members.
